Allergen-specific immunotherapy

Allergen-specific immunotherapy is the only modern treatment changing the course of an allergic disease; it is used to develop a tolerance to the allergen causing the allergy. We can perform allergen-specific immunotherapy for the treatment of pollen allergy, household dust allergy, insecticide allergy and animal allergy. It is possible to carry out the treatment using subcutaneous injections or sublingual drops. We perform allergen-specific immunotherapy on both children and adults.

Appointment with a geneticist

A geneticist deals with an already diagnosed genetic disease or the diagnosing, treatment and counselling of patients suspected of having one. At the geneticist's appointment, the patient receives information about the diagnosed disease, it is explained to him how the given disease is inherited, what is the recurrence risk in close relatives, what are the testing options for the patient and his close relatives, and what are the treatment options.

Epicutaneous tests

Epicutaneous tests are used for identifying the potential allergen when diagnosing allergic contact dermatitis. To perform the test, allergens are placed on the upper back using patches (the number of patches depends on the number of allergens studied). Patches will be left on the back for two whole days (48 hours), after which they will be removed. The result of the test will be evaluated during the third appointment (usually 48 hours after the patches have been removed).

Balloon-assisted enteroscopy

A test for identifying diseases of the small intestine. With the help of a balloon located at the endoscope, the small intestine is pulled onto the endoscope, and the endoscope is advanced inside the intestine in this way. During the examination, it is possible to take tissue samples and perform treatment procedures, if necessary (taking a biopsy, polypectomy). Since the procedure may take a long time, it is usually performed under anaesthesia and in the day treatment ward.

Anaemia screening test (hemoglobin)

Anaemia means a decrease in blood haemoglobin concentration and erythrocyte count below the age- and sex-adjusted normal values. Signs of anaemia are gradually increasing fatigue, weakness, shortness of breath, loss of productiveness, pale skin, etc. Erythrocytes or red blood cells (RBC) contain haemoglobin. Haemoglobin’s (Hb) task is oxygen transportation. Hb and RBC are a part of a haemogram (CBC-5Diff), i.e a complete blood count.

HDL cholesterol

Lipoproteins are complexes of proteins and lipids which are classified according to density into high-density lipoproteins (HDL) and low-density lipoproteins (LDL). HDL binds excess cholesterol to remove it from cells. A higher blood level of HDL-cholesterol (HDL-Chol) or “good” cholesterol is a protective mechanism against atherosclerotic changes. LDL-cholesterol or “bad” cholesterol promotes cholesterol deposition on the walls of blood vessels. A high blood level of LDL-cholesterol is a prognostic indicator for atherosclerosis.
